The Wolf’s Mouth – Year Five (January 1, 2019)
To: Mr. Steven Mnuchin, U.S. Treasury Secretary
Dear Mr. Mnuchin:
Once again, I am sending voluntary contributions to the Defense Department, Veterans Administration, assorted charities, educational institutions and law enforcement agencies in lieu of paying income tax directly to your department. My reasons for doing so are detailed at my website and in postings at my blog site (http://www.newguardsforliberty.com and http://www.freedomandthewolfsmouth.wordpress.com).
The bottom line? I will not subsidize a federal government which has forfeited its legitimate authority by repeatedly violating the strict constraints imposed upon it by the Constitution of the United States. Neither will I consent to be ruled by corrupt, career politicians, politicized lawyers posing as impartial judges, and unaccountable bureaucrats obsessed with controlling the lives of others. Over the past half-century, these enemies of individual liberty have slowly and incrementally transformed the Constitution from a security pact among the states and their citizens into an instrument of surrender to the government. In doing so, they have destroyed the rule of law in America. I have resolved that their treachery will not stand.
What do I hope to accomplish? First, to force the government back within its original, constitutional constraints. Next, to purge the bottom-feeding lobbyists and crony capitalists infesting the nation’s capital. And finally, to depoliticize our homes, churches and schools by evicting the hordes of social engineers who have invaded these private sanctuaries and thwarted our pursuit of happiness with endless rules, regulations and mandates enforced by anti-democratic administrative agencies.
How will this end? Without help I will surely fail. Actions have consequences. My punishment will be harsh. I know this because government–like every natural predator–becomes particularly vicious when its chosen meal refuses to be eaten.
Even so, I remain optimistic that the rule of law and limited government can be restored to America. Victory will require the rise of a nonpartisan fellowship of courageous citizens willing to defend their freedom. Its members must find ways–large or small, substantive or symbolic–to throw sand into the gears of what has become a finely-tuned, liberty-grinding machine in Washington, D.C.
The time to act is now. The stakes are nothing less than the very survival of America as–in the words of Ronald Reagan–“a nation that has a government, not the other way around.” The task is daunting, but it CAN be done. Let’s roll!
Yours cordially,
Ray Cedor Jr.
